Saki Satom

*1969, Tokyo. Lives and works in London, UK.

Saki Satom makes drawings, videos and installations. She explores the behavioral norm and conventional wisdom, often focusing on codes and practices that tend to go largely unnoticed. The world she presents is, on the face of it, a deeply familiar one. But in each of her works she introduces a note of gratuity that calls everything around it into question.

SATOM From B to H HD 11

From B to H / Japan / 2002 / 4’30 / 16’15 / 4:3

From B to H captures the movements of a solitary woman as she dances to piped musak in an office lift that is transformed into a private ballet studio. Her voluntary isolation provides her with an opportunity for a cheerful performance.
