Lowave Collection

Lowave's film and video collection has been built between 2002 and 2014 and features over 250 video artists and filmmakers from around the world. The label has contributed to an important number of international exhibitions, biennials, film and video festivals, as well as academic programmes. As Lowave's activities evolve, we have stopped our film distribution and our catalogue serves now as an archive that documents over a decade of film and video art history. A selection of our DVDs is on sale at Re:Voir in Paris.


Yuki Hayashi

*1976, Japan. Lives and works in Hyogo, Japan.

He began making visual art in 1997. His Landscape Movie (2002) won the Special Jury Prize at the 2002 IFF. Last Boy Last Girl (2006) won the Most Innovative Film or Video Production Award at the Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival. His works have been featured at various art exhibitions and film festivals both in Japan and abroad.

Barbara Hlali

*1979. Lives and works in Dortmund and Münster, Germany.

Barbara Hlali studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Münster and works as an artist with several media. She questions situations of political crises and war and the limits of human existence. She examines the impact of those situations on the individual and analyses the possibilities to preserve a human attitude.

Laila Hotait

*1980. Lives and works in Madrid, Spain and Beirut, Lebanon.

Laila Hotait, holds a Bachelor in Arabic and Islamic Studies. As a Fulbright scholar she studied cinema, directing and script writing at the San Francisco State University and is a PhD candidate at the Audiovisual communication department, Universidad Carlos III, Madrid, Spain. She also works as a curator and co-founded the artist platform, Laaventura, with her sister Nadia.

George Hsin

*1971. Lives and works in Taiwan.

Taiwanese filmmaker George Hsin obtained a diploma in Industrial Design from the Tatung Institute of Technology in 1996. In 1997 he directed Rock TV and has been making films ever since. His film Sentimental Journey, co-directed with Tony Wu, has been shown on numerous festivals around the word.

Takahiko Iimura

*1937, Tokyo, Japan. Lives and works in Tokyo, Japan.

Iimura is one of the pioneers of Japanese cinema and video art. He directed his first experimental films in New York during the 1960s. His work explores a variey of subjects from ecology, erotic imagery, and social critique.

In the 1970s he began working with video. In the 1990s he discovered the domain of multimedia and created interactive art where the visitor can become an integral part of the installation. Today, his work is shown around the world.

Yasunori Ikeda

*1976, Japan. Lives and works in Gifu, Japan.

Filmmaker Yasunori Ikeda's works include an impromptu-created MOSAIC (2001 with Masakazu Saito), a documentary 7×7 (2004) which is composed of footages taken over the course of 49 days, and Tsuchi no hito 3 portraits (2009) in which characters are portrayed by images based on a narration. Yasunori Ikeda domestically and internationally creates and exhibits his works based on a different point of view from story films.
