Lowave Collection

Lowave's film and video collection has been built between 2002 and 2014 and features over 250 video artists and filmmakers from around the world. The label has contributed to an important number of international exhibitions, biennials, film and video festivals, as well as academic programmes. As Lowave's activities evolve, we have stopped our film distribution and our catalogue serves now as an archive that documents over a decade of film and video art history. A selection of our DVDs is on sale at Re:Voir in Paris.


Burcak Kaygun

*1976, Istanbul, Turkey. Loves and works in Istanbul, Turkey.

Burçak Kaygun was born in Istanbul in 1976. In 2006 she completed her BA degree at the Marmara University, School of Fine Arts, Department of Painting in Istanbul. As a student she began using a wide range of media to address her subjects. Alongside painting, she has repeatedly employed video, photography and sound. She enjoys taking on the limitations of each medium as a challenge, owing much to her experience as an art director of short films. Her videos and paintings have been exhibited around the world including at the Kasa Gallery Istanbul, Galerist Istanbul, Fotografie Forum Frankfurt, and e-flux The Building Berlin.

Richard Kerr

*1952, Ontario, Canada. Lives and works in Montreal, Canada.

Richard Kerr studied at the Sheridan College. A figurehead of the cinematic group Escarpment School in the 1970s, Kerr has been a reference in Canadian avant-garde for the past thirty years. A film teacher since 1986, an entire generation has trained under him. Inspired by photography, Richard Kerr dares to experiment with various cinematic forms, from poetic documentary to experimental fiction and found footage, a technique he uses in recent films in order to decipher American culture. Richard Kerr also makes variations of his work as installations or Light Box, and the ensemble of his work forms an astounding visual corpus. His films and videos have been acquired by numerous public and private collections. The Cinémathèque du Québec offered him his first important retrospective in Canada in 2000.

Bouchra Khalili

*1975, Casablanca, Morocco, lives and works in Paris, France.

Bouchra Khalili studied cinema at the Sorbonne Nouvelle and Fine Arts at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Arts de Paris-Cergy. With a strong focus on the Mediterranean region as an imaginary territory, her videos deal with nomadism and displacement. Her work borders cinema and visual arts, documentary and fiction; she experiments with the visual and conceptual limits of these media. Her work has been shown at numerous international exhibitions, biennials, and festivals, including the New York Video Festival (Lincoln Center), at CCCB and Caixa Forum of Art (Barcelona), at MACRO and Villa Médicis (Rome), The Biennale of The Moving Image (Geneva), La Force de l’Art (Galerie Nationale du Grand Palais, Paris). In 2006, several programs focused on her work were curated, especially in Brazil. Bouchra Khalili is also a contributor to film magazines and catalogues, and the co-programmer of the Cinémathèque de Tanger.

Nesrine Khodr

*1973, Beirut, Lebanon. Lives and works in Beirut, Lebanon.

Video artist Nesrine Khodr has made numerous videos that have been shown in contemporary art venues such as the Tate Modern in London, Ellen de Bruijne Gallery in Amsterdam, Frankfurter Kunstverein and La Villette in Paris. Her works have been nominated for prizes in France (Prix Gilles Dusein), Germany (Fairplay Gallery) and the Netherlands (Uriot prize). Nesrine’s creations are characterized by a personal and intimate approach and aim to explore a poetic moment under different forms, documentaries or visual essays.

Sunjha Kim

*1983. Lives and works in Cologne, Germany.

Sunjha Kim was educated in Visual Design and Philosophy at the National University in Seoul and graduated from the Academy of Media Art in Cologne. Her videos and artworks have been shown in numerous exhibitions and festivals around the world including the International Film Festival Rotterdam and Alternative Film/Video Festival Serbia.

Yeonjeong Kim

*1978. Lives and works in Ulsan, South Korea.

Having attained a MFA in Film at the Universiry of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, USA, she became a lecturer at the Korean National University of Arts, Seoul Institute of Arts and Howon University. Her works have been showcased at numerous International festivals in Jeonju, Ankara, Oblo, Rio de Janeiro and have competed for international prizes.
